Getting Your Motorcycle Licence - NSW
So you want to ride a motorcycle. But where do you start? Well you’ve come to the right place.
Step 1: Find out if you are eligible. You must be 16 years and 9 months old to obtain a licence.
Step 2: Check that your licence is current and has no penalties preventing you for being eligible. You will need your drivers licence number, or if you don’t have a drivers licence you need to apply for a Transport for NSW (TfNSW) Customer Number.
Step 3: Go to a training centre near you and book your Pre-Learner Motorcycle training course. This is a 2 day course, 3.5 hours each day. Don’t be late, or they won’t let you in. Click here for HART Rider Training
Step 4: Once you have completed your training, you will be provided with a certificate of competence. You need to book and attend Service NSW where you will sit your Rider Knowledge Test. This must be done within 3 months of your training. Click here for practice questions
Additional Information:
What to wear? You will need to have all your skin covered and sturdy shoes I.E. no shorts or t-shirts, you will be turned away. Steel capped boots are not recommended as this makes it hard to feel the foot controls.
What is provided? The training centre will provide a motorcycle, helmet and gloves. Of course, if you have your own helmet and gloves, please bring them along.
What bike should I choose? You will need to choose either a manual motorcycle or an automatic motorcycle (scooter).
What to expect? On the day of your course, you will need to arrive at the centre 20 minutes early. Late arrivals will not be allowed to attend. If you are late, you will have to you will have to rebook and repay.
Need an Interpreter? The course is run in English, so you will need to have a good level of English, if not, please take an interpreter with you.
