Day for it!
What a day for a ride! Weather was perfect here in the Snowy Mountains, Saturday 13 April 2024. 13 - 21 degrees. So WROC are preparing for their first real group ride. Some of us girls have ridden, but this was the first bigger group ride.
So let me give you a little background about WROC - Women Riders of Cooma. I started this little group in around March 2023. Being new to Cooma, I thought that I could meet up with like minded women who ride. I started searching for a local group. I found one in Jindabyne, but there was nothing more local here in Cooma. So I started one up. I called it WROC. I posted in the local community pages, and soon I had a small group of about 20 members.
Thought we should all meet, so arranged for a coffee date to meet and greet. As I sat there at the edge of Centennial Park in Cooma, waiting for the women to arrive, this lone women walked up with her arm in a cast. Rene introduced herself and I was stoked that someone had turned up. However, Rene was a learner rider and had dropped her new Kawasaki just a couple of weeks prior and fractured her wrist, hence the cast. So as much as I was stoked that she turned up, I thought great, the only lady who turns up can’t ride due to her broken wrist. Rene and I are now friends and enjoy each others company on a regular basis and ride together often.
Fast forward one year to me posting up our ride on our WROC FaceBook Page. Our plan: meet at Cooma (our amazing home town), head through Nimmitabel (amazing Historical town close by), then down Brown Mountain (amazing twisty road) down to Candelo General Store for a coffee (amazing store). Then through Myrtle Mountain (amazing forest road), then up Mt Darragh (another amazing twisty road) to Bombala for lunch, then home. We are so blessed to have such gorgeous roads at our fingertips.
So we meet at Cooma Shell Service station. We have 7 x lady riders. Wow, this is so great. I was totally stoked.
Geri - Suzuki VStrom
Shay - Honda 250L
Rene - Kawasaki 400
Kelly - Harley Softail Slim
Lis - KTM Duke 250
Michelle - Triumph Thruxton 1200
Kat - Honda CB1000R (that’s me with my thumbs up)
Geoff, token male (my hubby) - Triumph Tiger 900
Leave Cooma at around 9:30am. Travel to Nimmitabel (Geoff was sweep), regroup at Nimmity. Lis, who is a very fresh learner, always thought that she would go home from Nimmity. Geoff, the lovely person he is, said he would escort her home, which he did. Thank you Geoffrey, your the best.
The rest of us (6 x chickies left) headed off down Brown Mountain to Candelo. The Brown Mountain Road is so great. Lots of twists and turns. Doesn’t go for that long, but a definite must for motorbike riders. The General Store at Candelo is great to visit. Est is 1904, it is a real treat. Check it out.
After our coffee, we went through Myrtle Mountain Road towards Wyndham. Myrtle Mountain Road is one of those roads that you discover along your journey. It’s winding road goes through the very tall Eucalyptus trees. Totally awesome road. Turning right onto Mt Darragh Road. This is a road not to be missed. About 35 kms of windy road up towards Bombala. yes Yes YES.
Lunch at the Imperial Hotel at Bombala, which has just been recently renovated. Looking good Imperial!
Then home time. Geri and Shay, turned off to get home to Berridale and Adaminaby. Which left me, Rene, Michelle and Kelly returning home to Cooma.
Thanks ladies for an amazing day. Can’t tell you how excited I am to have met you all. Let’s get some more girls to join WROC so that we can grow our group.
Cheers, Kat.
